新的懷舊。- New Nostalgia -
Based in Toyama, DJ NAho presents a vibrant Asia-inspired mix blending Taiwanese music and cityscapes, inspired by her visit to the World Music Festival @ Taiwan in October 2024.
This three-day festival in Taipei featured diverse sounds, including Taiwanese pop, indigenous-rooted music, and other Asian influences. Drawing from her experience, NAho reflects on the music she encountered and the dynamic atmosphere of Taipei.
The festival venue, Taipei Music Center, is an impressive concert hall, accompanied by the Taipei Music Center Culture Hall, a museum showcasing the history of Taiwanese pop culture (C-POP) from the 1950s to the present. The exhibits, infused with cutting-edge technology, evoke a nostalgic yet fresh mood, reminiscent of Japan’s Showa-era retro charm.
This juxtaposition of the old and new was also palpable in the surrounding Nangang District, slightly removed from Taipei’s bustling downtown. Major streets feature modern redevelopments, but step into the back alleys, and you’ll find a vibrant, traditional way of life.
Incorporating snippets of Taipei’s urban sounds and the live atmosphere of the festival, NAho’s mix captures the nostalgia and novelty of her experience.
I hope you can feel the unique energy of Taipei and enjoy this auditory journey!
